I am constantly on the search for the best travel bags. On a recent trip I was looking for a new carry-on pack. I was looking for a backpack alternative when I came across the Calpak Luka Duffel. Having now taking the Calpak Luka Duffel on 2 international trips, this bag has permanently cemented itself on my list of favorite personal item bags.
Here is my review of the Calpak Luka Duffel.
Reasons to LOVE:
The Model
The Calpak Luka Duffel is made with a padded exterior making it comfortable to carry. The Calpak Luka Duffel and actually the whole Calpak Luka line is made with a specially padded material which makes the bag soft and sturdy, while still being flexible.
Size
This duffel is big! – but not too big! The interior is spacious. You will be surprised what you can fit. This bag also will fit in under most airplane seats which makes it perfect as a carry on. I love that I can keep it upright and still get to everything I need.
Front Pocket
The Calpak Luka Duffel has a very spacious front zipper pocket that goes the whole width of the bag making it easy to put in additional items you would like to have quick access to, while keeping them secured.
Shoe Compartment
The Calpak Luka Duffel has a separate shoe compartment – I use this to store my slippers when I travel and have also used it to store items I just want to keep separate and have quick access to.
Trolley Sleeve
Having a trolley sleeve was a deal breaker for me in my bag search. The Calpak Luka Duffel has a sturdy trolley sleeve that slips easily over the handle of your larger carry-on bag making walking through the airport a breeze.
Hidden Pocket
The Calpak Luka Duffel has a secret hidden pocket on the back next to the trolley sleeve. This is an excellent place to store your passport or perhaps emergency $$ just in case.
Reasons NOT to love:
It’s hard for me to find something not to love about the Calpak Luka Duffel, but the one thing I can say that because it is so spacious, it is easy to over pack! If you are taking this bag as your personal item, you will need to be careful not to overfill it.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Calpak Luka Duffel is a terrific backpack alternative if you are looking for a larger, personal item and I highly recommend it. The duffel could also count as a carry-on bag with a smaller personal item like a purse.
